Haley Dunphy deserved better

So people reckon that Haley was just like her mother and she was to end up doing exactly what Claire did, i.e., accidentally get knocked up and married to a not-so-bright goofball (who buckles down once responsibility knocks on the door) with a good heart who made her immensely happy. And a lot of fans including me were mad that the writers didn't make her end up with Andy.

But I am here to rant about something else.

Leave aside Andy, Dylan, Arvin, or that odd weatherman, I am disappointed about the fact that Haley's character did not get to have a "real" career in fashion like her character had started to incline towards during the mid-seasons of the show, and she started meandering again into the unknown when it came to her career and eventually ended up working at a pseudo-science company that is anyway going to be defunct soon.

I am pretty mad about the fact that except Haley, pretty much every character on the show grew and was a different or better version of themselves (in some way or the other) towards the end. And while Haley is a sweet girl, in the end, she was just an older version of what we saw in the first season and her character seemed to go back into her old patterns again instead of us actually witnessing some character growth.

Listen, I have grown up watching the show, and it is literally my first ever English-language TV show that I watched and so I have an attachment to the characters and their journeys, especially with Haley, as I related to her a lot (after Claire) and so it was sad to see her barely grow at all.

I can forgive the fact that they made her end up with Dylan but it would have been much better if the writers actually made her achieve something substantial in her fashion career because she honestly had the talent, confidence, determination, and street smarts to do it in a way that wouldn't have looked too unbelievable for the viewers.

Hell, Dylan's career arc as a nurse was the one that seemed unbelievable and forced conveniently for the storyline. ðŸ˜‚ Let's just say I shall never stop being disappointed with Haley's career arc, because a career is obviously very important, people!

So, this is how I would dictate Haley's character arc if I had that power and were one of the writers: Haley's fashion blog blows up while she also develops a penchant for professional photography on the side, (remember her photography exhibit episode?) and she starts getting offers from big brands and local businesses to promote their products on her blog and therefore starts earning a lot of money to support herself and eventually moves out of her parent's basement.

Then let's say that Dylan (if not Andy) re-enters her life, who is still an aloof oddball with no "brainy" career going on and is still designing & selling T-shirts and/or working at Disneyland and doesn't make much money but still makes Haley really happy, and they accidentally get pregnant and married in the end with Claire's initial disapproval (of course), but later she warms up to the idea of having him in the family, as she originally does on the show.

Damn, I should be a writer too! 😂💗
